Crestview Hills, KY – Women's basketball fell short of their seventh straight win on Monday night against #2 Thomas More. The red-hot Saints overpowered the Bears in the first half to create the lead and maintained through the rest of the contest.
Mary Englert was a highlight for the Bears, dropping in 14 points and 11 rebounds for her fourth double-double of the season. On the defensive end, Englert led with a career-high three blocks and a steal. Both
Morgan Stamper and
Sierra Feltner added seven, and Stamper pulled in 10 rebounds.
After going down 4-0 in the early going, back-to-back threes from
Bailey Frazier and Englert put UPIKE in the lead. The Bear's defense locked down in the first, forcing 10 missed shots from the Saints until TMU finally struck for a three with 1:34 to go in the period.
The second period consisted of a monster 12-4 run by the Saints followed up later in the period by three straight deep balls from Hurst that put the Bears down 41-18. UPIKE didn't lay down after the half, storming back to match Thomas More point for point in the third quarter, sparked by an opening three-pointer from Englert.
The final period saw the Saints pull ahead in a big way, shooting 62% from the floor and outscoring the Bears 24-10.
In the Mid-South Conference rankings, the Bears are currently at seventh behind 10-9 (RV) Bethel (Tenn.) The Bears have a pair of regular-season contests left on the docket, starting with Freed-Hardeman this Thursday, February 17th before wrapping up the regular season against Bethel on Saturday, February 19th.
