Pikeville, KY – The University of Pikeville women's golf team signed Clay County High School product Taylor Messer for the upcoming 2022 fall season.

This past fall, Messer helped the Tigers win the region tournament, while shooting an 86 and finishing fifth individually. This allowed the Tigers to move onto the state tournament held at Bowling Green Country Club, where they finished ninth as a team with a score of 734 (370, 364). Individually, Messer finished in a tie for 76th place with a score of 187 (92, 95).

Off the course, Messer has a great work ethic and has done great work in the community. Taylor helped out in Clay County by organizing a program called "Blessings in a Backpack." She worked for several months receiving donations and ensuring all the backpacks were complete.  The backpacks are given to kids in Clay County who are removed from their homes in unfortunate situations. She provided the local sheriff's office with over 40 backpacks filled with much needed items for them to call their own.

Other deeds include volunteering at Advent Health and being a youth spokesperson for Volunteers of America. Messer recently had the opportunity to give a presentation at the State Capital about children's oral health and overall wellness.

Messer already has experience being at UPIKE. This past summer, she prepared for her future dream of being a pediatrician by spending a week at UPIKE for their PEPP Program. After this, she spent five weeks at Centre College completing the Governor's Scholars Program.

She also has a craft selling group on Facebook called TGMakery and sings for the worship team at church.
