Keeton's Grand Slam Caps Off Great Day At The Ballpark

Pikeville, KY – The University of Pikeville softball team won their fourth straight game Thursday afternoon after a doubleheader sweep over the visiting Miami University Hamilton Harriers, 5-0 and 13-0. These are the Bears first two shutouts of the season.

Game one was highlighted by a two-RBI single from Jamie Pollard. Zoey Keeton put an exclamation point on game two with a grand slam in the bottom of the fourth inning after checking in at third base earlier in the contest.

The wins move UPIKE to 9-13 this season before they return to Mid-South Conference play tomorrow afternoon against the Cumberland University Phoenix.

Game One
UPIKE jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning. The Harriers didn't help their cause with an error to begin the inning that would yield three unearned runs. Alyssa Franklin got hit by a pitch for an RBI, Zoe Ingram walked for an RBI before the aforementioned Pollard single up the middle to achieve the 4-0 advantage.

Mattea Ware stifled the Harriers bats, striking out six and picking up her sixth win this season and second of the week. The final run came in the form of a Kendall Hillard single up the middle as the Bears won 5-0.

Game Two
UPIKE hit the ball all over the field in the final contest. Alexis Roby had three RBI in the first two innings, while Haleigh Jones and Megan Nethercutt both had two as the Bears led 9-0 heading into the third.

As mentioned, the cherry on top was Keeton's first collegiate grand slam and second homerun of the season to make it 13-0 and give the Bears their second win of the day. She now leads the team in homers. Katlyn Mullins tossed a two-hit gem for her second straight win, striking out six hitters in the process. Thirteen different Bears picked up a hit during the doubleheader, with four having multiple hits.

What's Up Next
UPIKE is right back at Paul Butcher Field tomorrow afternoon for their first home MSC series this season against Cumberland University. The two teams are 5-5 against each other in their last 10 meetings dating back to 2018.
