Georgetown, KY – Bears baseball pushed past (RV) Georgetown in game three of the series Monday afternoon, winning 9-7 in a game called after five innings due to weather. The Bears put six runs on the board in a monstrous fourth inning, adding three more in the sixth which would secure the win.
The win is the first for the Bears over the Tigers since April of 2019, breaking an eight-game losing streak to Georgetown. Monday's victory also marks the first over an opponent ranked or receiving votes in the top 25 this season.
Cam Revolt,
Ryan Sartin,
Demarco Miller, and
Mikey Swails all went 2-3 with a pair of RBIs in the contest. Both Miller and Revolt scored a pair of runs and
Jared Kirkman busted a two-RBI go-ahead double and added a run scored.
Austin Wetherington got the call to start for the Bears and offered three innings of work, giving up five runs (4E) on eight hits.
Grayson Harris relieved in the fourth inning and finished the game, picking up his second win of the season. Harris closed the game allowing just a pair of runs through two innings on four hits, striking out two.
After scoring two runs in the first frame, Georgetown held the lead until the top of the fourth inning where the Bears exploded at the plate with six runs on five hits.
Tyler Maynard put a hard grounder in play to third, reaching on an error before going from corner to corner via a single from
Eduardo Bello on the next at bat. Maynard scored on a passed ball to put UPIKE on the board before Sartin sent an RBI single down the left field line to tie the game. An infield error put the Bears ahead 3-2 before Freas tagged a two-RBI single to left to make it a 5-2 ballgame. Clever baserunning and a pair of infield mistakes saw Freas score the final run of the inning.
Georgetown answered in the fifth with four runs to tie the game but it was
Demarco Miller and
Jared Kirkman who would be the heroes for the Bears in the fifth inning. Revolt opened the frame with his second hit of the game before Sartin moved him into scoring position with his 37
th hit of the season.
Demarco Miller flared a single that put Revolt heels up towards home plate, scoring what would be the winning run. A double from Kirkman scored Miller on the next at-bat, giving the Bears their final run.
UPIKE baseball returns to the diamond on Wednesday, April 13
th as they head to New Albany, Indiana to take on (19) Indiana-Southeast in a double header. First pitch of game one is slated for 2:00 PM.
