Campbellsville, KY – The University of Pikeville softball team ended their season on Thursday afternoon in the opening round of the Mid-South Conference tournament with a doubleheader loss at Campbellsville University, 11-1 and 11-3.
Lillie Kluesner had a hit in both games to lead the Bears.
Game One
The Bears found themselves down 6-0 heading into the top of the fourth inning.
Lillie Kluesner and
Sophie Kluesner both had singles to start the inning before a
Haleigh Jones sacrifice bunt put runners on second and third with one out. A
Kendall Hillard single and an errant throw home brought in a Bears run to make it 6-1. However, that was all UPIKE would get in the 11-1 loss.
Game Two
After falling behind 1-0 in the first, UPIKE had a chance to tie it in the second inning. A pair of walks gave the Bears an opportunity with two outs.
Katelyn Byrd knocked a single through the left side, but the left fielder threw a strike home to get the final out and keep the score at 1-0.
The Bears would do some damage in the top of the fifth inning. Byrd walked and
Lillie Kluesner singled before they both advanced to second and third on a passed ball with nobody out. A
Sophie Kluesner RBI groundout gave UPIKE their first run before
Zoe Ingram blasted her second homerun of the season to cut the lead to four at 7-3. The Tigers would hold on however and win the game 11-3.
