Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Warriors Hand Bears First Home Loss

Pikeville, Ky. – Women's soccer battled Webber International on Sunday, dropping their first home contest of the season 2-0.

The Bears played a solid game, with no truly detrimental mistakes but were outplayed by the Warriors. Webber recorded 23 shots, placing 15 on frame to the Bears eight shots, three of which were on goal.

Elizabeth Lukens kept the damage at a minimum, fighting off 13 shots on goal.

Chances came at a premium in the first half for the Bears, only recording one shot by way of Kylie Golilhue which was wide right. The Bears looked solid defensively in the first half despite the stat sheet, limiting Webber to mostly indirect and easily defensible shots.

With about seven minutes played in the second, the Bears used speed on the outside to create some chances. Amya Webb fired a shot on goal in the 53rd minute which was followed up less than a minute later by a Gollihue shot. Cacia Larsen's corner minutes later was headed by Lauren Din but blocked by the Warriors.

Making her second appearance of the season was freshman Carley Groh who changed the pace for the Bears halfway through the second period. Groh used speed and positioning to put the Webber defense off-balance, and fired four shots in the contest.

The Warriors controlled in the final 10 minutes, securing the 2-0 victory.

UPIKE women's soccer has a short break before heading out to Florida for a pair of games. The Bears take on Ave Maria on Saturday, September 17th before a battle with Warner on Monday, September 19th.
