Prestonsburg, Ky. – Led by standout freshman
Renee Crooks, UPIKE women's golf delivered their second straight tournament title on Tuesday afternoon. The Bears claimed the top spot of six teams at the Alice Lloyd Eagle Invitational at Stonecrest Golf Course.
The Bears carded a two-round score of 633 through 18 holes, topping runner up Brescia by 34 strokes. This is the first time the Bears have claimed back to back tournament wins since the 2018-19 campaign.
Renee Crooks finished at 152 (+8), with her best round coming on Tuesday where she tallied a 73 (+1). This is Crooks' second straight title and All-Tournament performance.
Carly Crooks also carded a second consecutive All-Tournament performance, finishing fourth with a 158 (+14).
Rounding out the top five, also garnering an All-Tournament distinction was freshman
Lauren Holmes who shot a 158 (+17). Holmes impressed, shooting a career low 77 (+5) on Monday.
Elsewhere in the top ten was Sophia Beverly who tallied a 164 (+20) to finish seventh. Gabby Blankenship finished just outside the top ten at 12
th with a 167 (+23), shooting scores of 81 and 86.
Individual
Taylor Messer wasn't far behind, carding scores of 89 and 82 to finish 13
th while
Emily Brown tied for 21
st with a 178 (+34). Brown shot for eagle in round two on hole 13 which is a par four. Madalyn Smith shot 101 and 93 to finish 29
th overall.
The Bears return to action next weekend for the Asbury Invitational held at Kearney Hills GC in Lexington, Ky.
