Pikeville, Ky. – Bears women's soccer fell 4-0 to Shawnee State Tuesday afternoon, falling to 7-1-1 overall and 1-1-0 in conference play.
UPIKE totaled four shots in the contest by way of Alix Herter,
Jayce Buchner,
Carley Groh, and
Cacia Larsen. Herter was the only one to square up a shot on goal.
Millicent Conod manned the goal for UPIKE the majority of the contest, recording six saves in just over 60 minutes of action.
Elizabeth Lukens relieved Conod for the final 28 minutes of play and managed a pair of key saves.
UPIKE's defense held the SSU offensive attack at bay through the first 26 minutes before Shawnee leading scorer Brianna Brudy found net to go up 1-0. Coach Langseth's unit struggled to find chances offensively, recording their first shot in the 36' minute from Groh.
Herter fired a solid challenge in the 38
th minute that was saved by the keeper. Shawnee State kept the pressure up, going up 3-0 before the break.
Larsen's header missed high to open the second half, before Conod saved Shawnee's would-be fifth goal. Buchner sent a shot that missed high as well just seven minutes later. Brudy scored for SSU once again in the 61' minute, putting UPIKE at a four goal disadvantage.
Shawnee sent five more shots throughout the remainder of the contest, holding the UPIKE attack at bay to secure the 4-0 victory.
UPIKE women's soccer heads to Georgetown on Saturday, October 1
st for a 5:00 PM kick-off against the Tigers.
