Women's Soccer Ends Weekend with Hard Fought Loss to Siena Heights

Crestview Hills, Ky. – Despite Siena Heights claiming the 3-1 victory in yesterday's neutral site match, UPIKE women's soccer look towards next Sunday's home match optimistically. The Bears held the Saints to a single goal in the first period but SHU would fire two more late in the second.

The loss drops the Bears to 3-2 on the season and 0-1 against the Saints as the match was the first between the two teams.

Seven shots came from the Bears, by way of Ellie Webb who recorded three and Ariel Herter, Brekel Tibbs, Jayce Buchner, and Cacia Larsen who all shot once. The Bears lone goal in the contest came from Herter in the 80th minute, her second of the season.

Elizabeth Lukens put together one of the strongest showing of her career, warding off 17 shots on goal.

After Lukens snagged two saves within the first 15 minutes of action, the Saints turned a penalty kick opportunity into a 1-0 lead in the 16th minute.

Siena Heights managed four more shots the remainder of the half, but the UPIKE defense held strong.

The Saints sent five shots in the first 15 minutes of the second half, as Lukens held strong with five saves during the stretch. Directly after a Lukens save in the 63rd minute, Siena Heights made it 2-0 in the 63rd minute. The Saints took a 3-0 lead with another goal just four minutes later.

Herter's goal came after Tibbs and Webb fired back to back shot attempts, giving the Bears life in the 80th minute. The momentum held steady as the Bears would send three more shots just three minutes later but were unable to connect.

The Bears return to the pitch next Sunday, September 11th at Bob Amos Field in Pikeville for a match with Webber International.
