Lebanon, Tenn. - After landing at #21 in the most recent Coaches Top 25 Poll, the UPIKE Bears extended their win streak to 11 in a row with an 81-62 road win over Cumberland University Thursday night.
Bailey Frazier opened the scoring in this one with a layup just twenty seconds into the game. UPIKE jumped out to an early 6-2 lead but the Phoenix responded with an 8-0 run to go up four. The Bears closed out the first on a 9-4 run, capped off by a layup by Morgan Stamper with 0:06 left in the first. After one quarter, the Bears led the Phoenix 15-14.
The Bears held the Phoenix to just six points in the first 7:38 of the second and went on a 15-6 run to go up 31-20. The Phoenix cut the lead to seven but Mary Englert put the Bears ahead by nine with a layup. Led by Englert with eight first half points, the Bears went to the locker room with a 33-24 lead.
CU opened the second half on a 4-0 run. Over the next five minutes, the Phoenix scored just four more points while UPIKE piled on 15 to take a 48-32 lead. UPIKE pulled away late in the quarter after Hailey Free hit a three to cap off the third leading 55-37. The Bears' shot 60% from the field in the third quarter and outscored the Phoenix 22-13.
Sheridan Robbins scored five of UPIKE's first seven points in the fourth quarter. The Bears led by as much as 21 in the final frame and were led in scoring by Mary Englert with nine. Bailey Frazier, who had nine points and two steals, finished the game off with a pair of made free throws and the Bears took this one 81-62.
Mary Englert had 27 points and a pair of assists. Allie Stone had 14 points, four rebounds and three assists. Sierra Feltner had nine points and led the team in assists (6), rebounds (6) and blocks (3). The Bears shot 57% from the field and were 57% from beyond the arc against CU tonight. Similar to most of their other wins during their 11-game win streak, the Bears led for 35 minutes and 20 seconds of game time.
The #21 Bears improve to 17-4 (12-3 MSC) following tonight's win over CU. UPIKE will remain in Tennessee for their next game on Saturday against the UT-Southern Firehawks.
