Cleveland, Ga. - UPIKE men's soccer drew 1-1 with Truett McConnell Tuesday afternoon.
Gabriel Torres got the start in net for UPIKE, but Henry Glackin recorded the first save of the match. Glackin stepped in front of a shot from TMU's Max Farris in the 6' to keep the score at 0-0. UPIKE got another defensive save from Cristobal Leyton in the 27'.
Six minutes later, the Bears drove deep into Truett McConnell territory and drew a foul. The foul led to a penalty kick, taken by Anthony Aguilar. Aguilar buried the PK and UPIKE led 1-0 in the 34'.
Aguilar's sixth goal of the season was the only goal scored in the first 45. TMU held a 5-4 advantage in shots in the first half.
Jon Barragan got the action started in the second with a shot on goal in the 50'. Paulo Castillo had the next scoring chance for UPIKE just seconds later, but the shot went high.
The UPIKE Bears and the Truett McConnell Bears went back and forth from the 50' to the 81' before TMU turned up the heat. Over the span of three minutes, TMU had a header opportunity, two corner kicks, and a shot that was blocked.
In the 90', Truett McConnell drove deep into UPIKE territory and drew a foul. TMU's Oscar Brennan took the PK for the Bears and leveled the score with 13 seconds to play.
UPIKE is now 5-9-3 (2-7-3 AAC) following today's draw. Coach Shaun Schetka's team will return home Saturday evening against Milligan University for their final match of the season.
