Bears Sweep Double Header With Warren Wilson

Asheville, N.C. - UPIKE volleyball notched its 19th and 20th victories of the 2023 season after sweeping a doubleheader with Warren Wilson College Monday.  

Game 1: UPIKE 3, Warren Wilson 0 

The Bears downed the Owls 26-24 in set one, then took a 2-0 lead after taking set two 25-22. Lanie Hawley recorded a kill to give UPIKE at 25-17 set victory and a 3-0 match victory.  

Yaricel Rodriguez and Lanie Hawley led the Bears with ten kills each. Cheyenne Martinez had 19 kills and tied Lanie Hawley with two blocks each. Daniela Hernandez had a pair of aces and six digs.  

Game 2: UPIKE 3, Warren Wilson 0  

UPIKE picked up where they left in game two, taking set one 25-16. The Bears took a commanding 2-0 set lead after winning 25-22, then won the match 3-0 after a 25-21 victory in set three.  

Lanie Hawley led UPIKE with eight kills and tied Yaricel Rodriguez with one block each. Jordan Roberts, Bella Blackburn, and Cheyenne Martinez had two service aces each. Martinez also had 21 assists and now has 787 assists on the season.  

UPIKE is now 20-10 on the year following today's victories over the Owls. The Bears will wrap up the regular season Tuesday night against Bryan College at the UPIKE Gym
