PIKEVILLE, Ky. – After struggling from the floor in the first two games of the season, the University of Pikeville found the Appalachian Wireless Arena rims to its liking in a 91-50 win over Kentucky Christian University on Tuesday night.
The Bears entered hitting 45.9 percent overall and only 23.8 percent from the arc through two games, but on Tuesday, those numbers rose to 61.7 from the floor and an even 45 percent on three-point shots.
With the game tied at 4, the Bears got consecutive three-pointers from sophomore
Bradley Bunch, senior
Issac Stanback and grad student
Korbin Spencer to run the lead to 13-4 with 15:45 left in the first half.
Three minutes later, Spencer hit another three before sophomore
Keynan Cutlip and Bunch had consecutive layups to run the lead to 23-8 with 11:04 to play.
Leading 25-13, the Bears had yet another scoring outburst. Cutlip, Bunch and Spencer had consecutive layins before Spencer hit two tosses. Finally, Bunch nailed a triple with 6:00 to play and the lead was 36-13.
At the half, the Bears were in front 49-30.
Stanback finished with 19 points and 10 rebounds in only 18 minutes of playing time. Spencer finished with 13 points and eight rebounds, while Bunch tossed in 12 and pulled five rebounds.
The Bears won the rebounding battle 46-26. Junior
Kyonte Thomas had 11 points to go with six assists and five rebounds, while freshman
Connor Lane reached double-digits for the first time with 10.
Rheyce DeBoard was the only Knight in double figures with 13.
KCU (3-3 on the season, 1-1 in the AAC) finished hitting 32.8 percent from the field and 19.0 percent from the arc.
UPike (2-1, 2-1) will continue a busy week, heading to Johnson University on Thursday and Reinhardt University on Saturday.
