Bears sweep games in The Show

 
 
KINGSPORT, Tenn. – The University of Pikeville closed out the NAIA showcase The Show by putting one on in a 94-64 win over WVU Tech on Sunday afternoon.
 
UPike improved to 5-2 on the season with two wins in the event, which was held at the MeadowView Marriott Convention Center & Conference Resort. WVU Tech fell to 2-6 and suffered its fourth straight loss.
 
The Bears charged out of the gates, going 6-of-11 on three-point shots in the first quarter alone. Sophomore Allie Stone hit three of them to build the lead to 30-17 at its end.
 
The hot start led to the Bears shooting 13-of-28 from the arc for 46.4 percent.
 
Leading 34-19, UPike posted nine straight points to take command. Senior Bailey Birchfield hit a three from the corner to get it started. Senior Morgan Stamper hit two free throws and then a jumper, and closed it out with two more from the line.
 
When it ended, the lead was 43-19 with 5:46 still left in the half and 51-28 at the break.  
 
UPike put four players in double figures in the win, paced by Stone's 19. She added four rebounds and five assists. Frazier hit four three-point shots to finish with 18.
 
Stamper followed with 13 points and 17 rebounds, while freshman Rachel Bush tossed in 13 and pulled down five rebounds. The Bears won the rebounding battle 47-34.
 
WVU Tech got 25 markers from sophomore Alva Hedrich. She also led the team with seven rebounds and tied for top honors with three assists. Sophomore Rylee Allie followed with 15 while sophomore Alexis Sexton added 10.
 
The Bears will be back in action on Saturday afternoon when they visit Tennessee Wesleyan in Athens. Game time is slated for 2 p.m.
