CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. - The University of Pikeville suffered through frigid second-half shooting in a 66-51 loss to Campbellsville University on Saturday afternoon.
UPIKE (15-11 on the season and 11-9 in the Mid-South Conference) hit only 7-of-32 (21.9 percent) in the second half, while the Tigers (11-15, 6-14) hit half of their 26 shots to pull away for the win.
Freshman Keian Worrix got the Bears off to a fast start, scoring the game's first two baskets on layups. The second was a three-point play to give the Bears a 5-0 lead.
A free throw by junior Mark Vance Jr. with 15:06 left in the first half gave the Bears a 10-4 lead. It would prove to be the biggest advantage of the day.
The game was tied five times before the half, with Pikeville regaining the lead (31-30) on a layup by sophomore Devin Collins with 1:24 left. But the Tigers scored the final five of the frame to take a lead into the second half that it would never lose.
The baskets began a 14-2 run that stretched to the 17:49 mark. By then, the Tigers led 44-33. The Bears got no closer than nine the rest of the way.
Worrix and junior Teddy Parham Jr. led the Bears with 11 points each. Worrix added five rebounds and five assists, while freshman Brady Bunch came off the bench and pulled down 12 rebounds.
