Pikeville, Ky. - The Bears had a four game set with Lourdes University this past weekend and took three of four from the Gray Wolves.
Game 1: UPIKE 10, Lourdes 20
After a monster first week at the dish,
Noah Helton stayed hot with a two-run blast in the first inning.
Cam Revolt crossed the plate a few batters later giving the Bears an early 3-0 lead. Neither team crossed the plate for the next three innings.Â
In the fifth, the Gray Wolves scored four to take the lead. Their lead was short lived, as
Noah Helton took the lead right back with another two run blast. Lourdes responded by hanging six runs on the Bears in the top of the sixth to take a commanding, 10-5 lead.Â
The Bears bullpen struggled down the stretch in this one. UPIKE made it interesting, but Lourdes ultimately took this after hanging a crooked number on the Bears in the top of the ninth.Â
Game 2: UPIKE 14, Lourdes 4 (6 innings)
The Bears came out with a vengeance in game 2, hanging six runs on the Gray Wolves in the first inning. UPIKE took advantage of the Gray Wolves' early struggles on the mound and were aggressive on the base paths.Â
UPIKE tacked on a pair of runs in the second and third innings and held a 10-1 lead heading into the fourth. Neither team scored in the fourth or fifth innings, but the same could not be said for the sixth.Â
Lourdes tacked on three in the top of the sixth to cut the lead to 10-4. In the bottom of the frame,
Samuel Torres hit an RBI single in right field.
Demarco Miller crossed the plate a few batters later after a single by
Tyler Maynard. Lourdes walked in the two final runs and UPIKE took game two by a final count of 14-4.Â
Game 3: UPIKE 12, Lourdes 3
Just like the first two games, UPIKE scored early and often.
Greg Lile drove in a pair of runs with a single to right field. A few batters later,
Noah Helton gave the Bears a 3-1 lead after scoring on a wild pitch.Â
Lourdes score one in the top of the third, and UPIKE countered with a run of their own in the next inning.
Tyler Maynard's sac fly stretched the Bears' lead back to two.Â
After Lourdes cut the lead in half in the top of the fifth, the Bears offense dropped the hammer.
Cam Revolt hit an RBI double then crossed home plate after
Zach Hill's two-run hit to right field. The Bears scored two more in the inning and led 8-3 after five.Â
After a
Greg Lile RBI single in the sixth,
Tyler Freas hit his first home run of the season to put UPIKE up 12-3. After Freas' three-run shot, neither team scored again and the Bears won 12-3.Â
Game 4: UPIKE 10, Lourdes 5
Greg Lile opened the scoring in game four with a sacrifice groundout, scoring
Noah Helton. Lourdes responded with a three-run top of the third. Their lead was short lived, as the Bears hung five runs in the bottom half of the inning. After
Cam Revolt tied the game with an infield hit,
Greg Lile emptied the bases with a three-run double to deep center field. UPIKE led 6-3 after the third inning.Â
Similar to the second game, UPIKE took advantage of errors committed by the Gray Wolves. The Bears scored three in the fifth inning, all off errors and wild pitches. UPIKE got a complete team win in this one and won 10-5.Â
The Bears record stands at 6-3 following the series win over Lourdes. UPIKE will be back in action Tuesday when they hit the road to take on Alice Lloyd College.Â
