Versailles, Ky. - UPIKE traveled to Midway University today and were defeated 16-6 by the Eagles.
Samuel Torres crossed the plate in the second inning after an error to open the scoring for the Bears. Torres crossed the plate again two innings later when he belted his first home run of the season to put UPIKE up 2-1 in the fourth. The Bears continued to apply pressure in the innings, putting two on base with slugger Noah Helton at the plate. Helton put his team up 5-1 after going yard for the seventh time this season.
Midway responded in a big way, however, pouring on 11 runs in the bottom of the fourth. One inning later, Hayden Hockett hit his first home run of the season but the Bears would not score again after. The Eagles scored one in the fifth, two in the sixth and one in the seventh to run-rule the Bears.
UPIKE will have their first home conference series of the season this Saturday when they take on the Freed-Hardeman Lions at Johnnie Lemaster Field.
