Bears Sweep Day 3 Double Header

Myrtle Beach, S.C. - The Bears blanked Iowa Wesleyan to start off day three of their 2023 Myrtle Beach trip then ended it by run-ruling Delaware Valley.

Game 1 - UPIKE 6, Iowa Wesleyan 0

Clara Blair got the scoring going with a sacrifice groundout in the bottom of the first. In the second, Jamie Pollard singled to center field, scoring Alexis Roby. Two batters later, Pollard crossed home plate after Sam Case hit a line drive just past the IWU shortstop.

Karsen Pritchard made it 4-0 after scoring on an error. UPIKE's big second inning was capped off by an RBI single to center field to put the Bears up 5-0 after two. The Bears added one more run in the bottom of the third when Jamie Pollard singled to center field. Neither team scored after and the Bears took this one 6-0.

Carolyn Alincic pitched another complete game shutout today, allowing just two hits and striking out a season-high 16 batters. Alincic is now 3-2 on the year with a 1.91 ERA.

Game 2 - UPIKE 19, Delaware Valley 1 (5 innings)

UPIKE took full advantage of some early miscues by the Aggies, scoring 11 runs off just three hits in the first inning. Zoe Ingram got the scoring started with an RBI single. Ingram's RBI single was the only run the Bears scored in the inning by way of a hit, with the rest coming as a result of errors, pass balls, wild pitches or groundouts.

Delaware Valley got one run back on an error, but would not score any more runs after. The Bears continued to pour on the runs in the fourth. Kendall Hillard scored on a pass ball to go up 12-1, then Eilish Neff scored after a single by Lillie Kluesner. The Bears took advantage of another error when Amber Triplett and Sam Case scored to make it 15-1. UPIKE added one more in the fourth and two more in the fifth to cap off a 19-1 win.

Kelsie Hardester got the start and the win for UPIKE today, her third of the season. Hardester threw 49 pitches over 3.0 innings, giving up one run (unearned) on two hits while striking out three Aggies.

Coach Robert Staggs' squad is now 8-2 (0-0 MSC) following today's wins. The Bears will face off with Penn State Hazleton and Bridgewater State tomorrow to wrap up their Myrtle Beach 2023 trip.
