Webb's Goal Lifts Bears Past Brenau

Pikeville, Ky. - Ellie Webb's goal in the 90' lifted the University of Pikeville Bears to a 3-2 win over the Brenau Golden Tigers, their first AAC win of the year.

Brenau had a few opportunities early in this one, but the Bears defense held firm. Then, the Bears recorded two shots and a corner kick between the 17' and 19'. Four minutes later, Anna Dudas connected with Kylie Gollihue for the first goal of the match. Gollihue's goal was her second in as many games. Later in the half, Coach Logan Langseth subbed in midfielder Ruby D'Arcy. Six minutes after subbing in, the freshman from Warrington, UK, gave the Bears a 2-0 lead in the 44'.

Second half action did not pick up until the Golden Tigers cut UPIKE's lead in half with a goal in the 76'. Brenau continued to turn up the heat and would level the score in the 80'. With the score tied and two precious points on the line, the Bears moved the ball up the field in the final minute. UPIKE moved the ball deep into Brenau territory by way of some very well executed throw ins. After a few bounces, the ball landed at the feet of junior midfielder Ellie Webb, who then buried the game winner in the 90' to seal the win for the Bears.

Coach Logan Langseth was elated after today's win, saying, "I have very few words, but our soccer family is just that. Family," he said. "Today you saw a family so United and determined to succeed. Go Bears."

Women's soccer is now 2-3-1 overall and 1-0-1 in conference play. Today's win over the Golden Tigers is also the program's first ever win in the Appalachian Athletic Conference. The Bears will hit the road Saturday for a 2 p.m. match at Johnson University.
