DAYTON, Tenn. – The University of Pikeville volleyball team saw its four-match win streak come to an end on Tuesday night, falling to Bryan College 3-0.
 
The Lions won the match 30-28, 25-21, 25-17.
 
The loss dropped the Bears to 8-3 overall and 2-3 in the Appalachian Athletics Conference. For Bryan, the preseason pick to finish second in the 15-team league, the win improved the overall record to 8-6, 5-1 in the AAC.
 
The first set was a dandy, as the score was tied on 21 different occasions. The Bears fell behind 20-15 before a ferocious rally saw them score six unanswered points to take the lead. UPike scored on a kill by sophomore 
Alondra Ayende before picking up points on four straight Lion errors. When junior 
Yaricel Rodriguez recorded a kill, the Bears had taken a 21-20 lead.
 
But the Lions rallied and scored three of the next four points. Tied at 28, Bryan won thanks to a ball handling error and an attack error.
 
In the second set, the Bears put together a five-point run early to take a 7-3 lead. Freshman 
Lanie Hawley had consecutive service aces to expand the lead to four. But the Bears couldn't hold on and fell 25-21.
 
Bryan scored the first six points of the final set and didn't look back.
 
Ayende led the Bears with 11 kills, followed by Rodriguez with seven. But the Bears were plagued with 31 attack errors in the contest.
 
Senior 
Cheyenne Martinez had 18 assists on the night.
 
Defensively, Hawley had a solo block and two block assists, while freshman 
Lillian Carpenter had 16 digs. She was joined in double figures by senior 
Kiara Warrens with 12 and freshman 
Bella Blackburn with 11.
 
The Bears will be back in action on Saturday afternoon when they host Union College. First serve is slated for 1 p.m. at the UPike Gym.
