Men's soccer shut out by Montreat

PIKEVILLE, Ky. – In a spirited battle under the lights on Saturday night at the Bob Amos Complex, Montreat picked up an important AAC win by a 2-0 score over the University of Pikeville.

Montreat improved to 4-3-1 on the season and 3-1 in the league. UPike fell to 3-4-1 overall, 0-2-1 against conference competition.

The Cavaliers wasted no time in getting on the scoreboard, as freshman Zeljko Stanojevic scored only 4:08 into the contest off a pass from junior Rodrigo Jimenez.

The Bears settled in, however, playing an even first half after that goal and trailed 1-0 at the break.

Montreat had six shots on goal, with five of them being credited to Stanojevic. Pikeville, meanwhile, had three different players record a shot on goal.

In the 50th minute, the Cavaliers scored again off a beautiful pass by Stanojevic that found freshman Alex Klymenko in front of the net for the goal.

UPike managed only five shots on goal in the match. Sophomore Daron Baumann had two to lead the Bears.  Montreat finished with 10 shots on goal.

The Bears are back in action on Wednesday at 1 p.m. when they host Columbia (S.C.) College at the Bob Amos Complex.

Montreat will host Reinhardt University on Wednesday. The contest is slated for 6:45 p.m. at Pulliam Stadium.
