Box Score Bluefield, Va. - UPIKE men's soccer drew a 2-2 tie with the Bluefield Rams Saturday afternoon.
Both teams had some good looks in the first thirty minutes. It was the Bears, however, that drew first blood when Daron Baumann broke the scored the first goal of the match in the 36'. Seconds later, Paulo Castillo found twine and gave UPIKE a 2-0 lead 37 minutes into the match. The Rams came right back and got some good looks on goalkeeper Adam Di Millo. BU's Drake Cullens cut the Bears' lead in half with a goal in the 42'.
The Rams came out firing in the second half and leveled the score in the 54'. Bluefield's Malte Alm was credited with the cap. UPIKE's defense limited the Rams to just one shot through the rest of the game. The Bears on the other hand, had three shots on goal after the Rams' goal but none found the back of the net. The match ended in a 2-2 tie.
UPIKE's record is now 4-4-2 (1-2-2 AAC) following Saturday's draw with Bluefield. Coach Shaun Schetka's side will return to action Wednesday afternoon for a 3:30 PM match against Columbia International at Bob Amos Park.
