Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Bears blank Bluefield 1-0

BLUEFIELD, Va. – A goal late in the first half stood up for the University of Pikeville women's soccer team in a 1-0 win over Bluefield (Va.) College on Saturday afternoon.

The win improved the Bears to 3-5-2 overall and 2-2-2 in the Appalachian Athletics Conference. Bluefield fell to 0-9-1 overall, 0-7 in the league.

UPike had four shots on goal in the game, but it was the one that came in the 41st minute that was the difference. It came off the foot of junior Alix Herter that found the net. The unassisted goal was her third of the season, moving her into a tie for the team lead.

The Rams managed only a single shot on goal in the contest, a second-half attempt by Savannah Holmes that was turned away by junior keeper Millie Conod.

The Bears had three more shots on goal. Two of those were taken by freshman Charlene Lofqvist. The other was a try by Kylie Ritter.

UPike is off until Wednesday afternoon when they host Columbia International University on Wednesday afternoon at 1 p.m.
