PIKEVILLE, Ky. – Sophomore
Lanie Hawley led three players with double digit kills as the University of Pikeville knocked off Tennessee Wesleyan University 3-1 on Tuesday night at the UPike Gym.

The win moved the Bears ahead of the Bulldogs in the AAC standings, improving to 9-6 overall and 4-3 in the league. TWU slipped to 6-11 on the season and 3-4 in the conference.

Hawley had 15 kills and was joined in double figures by
Olivia Chapman with 13 and
Cassidy Rivas with 11.
Jordan Roberts,
Lyla Reed and
Tylie Barton had two service aces each, and Barton recorded 40 assists.

Three Bears also had double figure digs on the defensive side, led by Rivas with 17. Reed added 12 while Roberts had 11. Hawley was also big on the defensive end with five solo blocks, while
Theresa Romero added two.

UPike returns to the court on Thursday when it plays at Columbia (S.C.) College.

Bears 25, Bulldogs 15: UPike stormed out of the gate with the first four points, getting kills from
Lanie Hawley and
Lyla Reed to go with a
Jordan Roberts service ace. Leading 7-4, the Bears then posted seven straight points with
Tylie Barton at serve.
Olivia Chapman had three kills in the run. A kill by
Cassidy Rivas put it away.

Bulldogs 25, Bears 16: The Bears jumped out to a 2-0 lead thanks to a pair of Hawley kills, but TWU ripped off six unanswered points to take control. UPike pulled within two at 8-6 after kills by Rivas and Chapman, but the Bulldogs had another run, scoring six of seven, and led 18-9. With
Emily Johnson serving, UPike got as close as 19-13, but couldn't draw closer as the Bulldogs evened the match at 1-1.

Bears 25, Bulldogs 21: UPike again jumped out to a 4-0 lead, getting a service ace from Roberts to stretch it out. TWU rallied, and tied it at 6-6. Three straight kills gave it a 10-8 lead. Trailing 11-9, the Bears scored six straight to take the lead, as Chapman served and the Bulldogs made four straight attack errors. TWU pulled within two, 22-20, before the Bears scored three of the last four points thanks to kills from Rivas, Chapman and the winning swing by Hawley.

Bears 25, Bulldogs 21: UPike led 5-3 early on after a kill by Chapman before the Bulldogs scored four straight to take a two-point lead of its own. Behind the serving of Rivas, the Bears ran off seven unanswered points, scoring on three kills and four attack errors to lead 12-7. TWU ran off eight of nine, getting five straight kills, to lead 16-14. UPike then scored four straight, getting two service aces from
Lyla Reed to take an 18-16 lead. The Bulldogs rallied for a 20-19 lead before the Bears scored six of the final seven points, getting two service aces from Barton and finishing it off with an attack error for the win.
