GAINESVILLE, Ga. - UPIKE volleyball was defeated 3-1 by Brenau University Saturday afternoon.  

Set 1: Brenau 25, UPIKE 13 

The Golden Tigers came out on fire and took it to the Bears in set one. UPIKE was unable to overcome the early deficit and dropped the match's opening set. Brenau led 1-0 heading into set two.  

Set 2: Brenau 25, UPIKE 21 

The Bears and Golden Tigers had a back-and-forth second set. Brenau would, however, go on a late run and take the set 25-21 and take a 2-0 lead in the match.  

Set 3: UPIKE 25, Brenau 19 

With the match on the line, the Bears came out firing in the third set. UPIKE gained momentum early in the set and carried it to a 25-19 set victory. Despite the set victory, UPIKE still trailed 2-1 in the match.  

Set 4: Brenau 25, UPIKE 20 

It was a neck-and-neck battle in the fourth until the Golden Tigers pulled away late in the set. Brenau took the set 25-20 and won the match 3-1.  

Cassidy Rivas led the Bears with 12 kills, followed by Lanie Hawley with 10. Hawley had a game-high five blocks and Theresa Romero had four. Tylie Barton had 35 assists, and Ashtyn Filkins had a game-high 13 digs. UPIKE had 12 serving aces as a team, led by Alondra Ayende with six.  

Coach Mary Haynes' team is 14-9 (9-6 AAC) following Saturday's loss to the Golden Tigers. The Bears are back at home Tuesday night for a 6:30 p.m. bout with the KCU Knights at the UPIKE Gym.
