Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Rams hand Bears first AAC loss

COLUMBIA, S.C. – Columbia International (S.C.) University ended an eight-game streak without a loss by the University of Pikeville, winning by a score of 3-0 on Wednesday afternoon.

It was the first loss for the Bears since the regular-season opener, a 4-0 setback to then No. 4 UT-Southern. UPike is now 6-2-1 on the season, 5-1-1 in the AAC.

CIU is now 6-3 on the season and 6-2 in the league.

The game was scoreless well into the second half when the Rams finally found the net. Sydney Thoman scored her first goal of the season in the 59th minute.

That goal ended a streak of three straight shutouts recorded by UPike senior goalkeeper Millie Conod, who entered the game with 340 consecutive scoreless minutes. Her streak ended at 399 minutes between goals, easily a new school record.

It took less than three minutes for the Rams to score again, getting another unassisted goal, this time from Amber McKinley in the 62nd minute.

The score moved to 3-0 in the 72nd minute when McKinley scored again, this time on a pass from Callie Rowe.

UPike had seven shots on goal with no success. Charlene Lofqvist had three of them, while Sadie Bourgeois, Rebekah Christopher, Ruby D'Arcy and Sara Ritter had one apiece.

Columbia International had eight shots on goal, with McKinley having four of them. The others were recorded by Lauren Jackson, Mazzie Leos, Olivia Young and Thoman.

Conod recorded five saves in net for the Bears, while Ram keeper Hailey Resetar had six.

The Bears will be back in action on Saturday when they travel north to Grayson to play Kentucky Christian University. The game is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start.
