Late goal pushes TWU past UPike

PIKEVILLE, Ky. – Senior midfielder Marte Stokseth found the net in the 82nd minute and made it stand up as Tennessee Wesleyan University held off the University of Pikeville 3-2 on Wednesday afternoon at Bob Amos Park.

It was Stokseth's fifth goal of the season and came off a pass from Jenna Gibson, her second assist. It moved the Bulldogs to 7-1-2 on the season and, more importantly, 7-0-1 in the league.

The Bears fell to 7-3-1 overall, 5-2-1 in the AAC.

The late goal spoiled a nice comeback for the Bears, who trailed 2-0 at the half and battled back to tie the game.

Tennessee Wesleyan took the early lead in the 31st minute with a goal from senior forward Krista Eik Hardardottir. The assist belonged to senior Alexandra Machado.

Eight minutes later, Hardardottir scored again, this time off a pass from sophomore midfielder Valerie Koopman, pushing the lead to 2-0 six minutes before the half.

After the break, the Bears wasted no time getting on the scoreboard. In the 51st minute, sophomore Charlene Lofqvist scored with no assist. In the 78th, UPike tied the score. Again it was Lofqvist, this time with help from sophomore Kylie Ritter.

UPike had nine shots on goal in the match. Lofqvist had four of those, scoring two times. Anna Dudas and Sadie Bourgeois recorded two each, while Sara Ritter had one.

Senior goalkeeper Millie Conod had three saves for the Bears.

The Bulldogs had six shots on goal, with four of those going to Hardardottir. Stokseth and Jemma White had one apiece.

Senior goalkeeper Laia Roch Font spent all 90 minutes in goal, recording seven saves.
