Stellard pitching, big hits earn Bears split at Milligan

 
 
MILLIGAN, Tenn. – University of Pikeville split a doubleheader in AAC play, losing to Milligan University 2-0 before shutting them out 10-0 in the second game.
 
The Bears are now 9-10 on the season and 5-5 in the conference.
 
UPike returns to action on Monday afternoon, hosting Bluefield (Va.) College for a pair. The action at Paul Butcher Field begins at 1 p.m.
 
Milligan now stands 7-12 on the season, 5-7 in the league.
 
Buffs 2, Bears 0: Milligan pushed across single runs in the fourth and sixth and UPike couldn't get a clutch hit in the opener.
 
The Bears got a one-out double by Alyssa Franklin in the second, a single from Sophie Kluesner in the fifth and a two-out single by Kendall Hillard in the seventh, but failed to score.
 
Chloe Bryant (3-3) went the distance and pitched good enough to win. She struck out four and didn't walk a batter, allowing five hits in the loss.
 
Bears 10, Buffs 0: The Bears turned the tables on Milligan in the second game, pounding out 14 hits and scoring 10 times to win the game in six innings.
 
C.J. Alincic pitched all six innings for the Bears, improving to 3-5 on the season. She allowed only two hits and struck out seven.
 
UPike scored three runs in the first, third and sixth while adding a single run in the fifth.
 
Sam Case had three hits including a double, scored three times and drove in three as well. Kluesner also had three hits, including a double, with two RBIs.
 
Kaden Dunlap, Maria McClellan and Franklin all had two hits. Dunlap scored three and drove one in, McClellan had a double and an RBI while Franklin doubled and drove in two.
 
Maddie Horn had a hit while Lillie Kluesner had a hit and scored.
