Bears open Spring Break trip

NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – After getting rained out on Saturday, the University of Pikeville softball team opened its spring break trip on Sunday.

The Bears lost to Chestnut Hill College 2-1 in the opener and fell to Lancaster Bible College 8-2 in the nightcap.

Griffins 2, Bears 1: An RBI single by Lopez Del Haro in the bottom of the seventh inning pushed Chestnut Hill, located in Philadelphia, past UPike.

Del Haro had opened scoring in the bottom of the fifth when she doubled, and drove in the winning run on a single to center. Both times she drove in Camille Dunham, who had singled and walked.

UPike scored in the top of the sixth. Alyssa Franklin singled and her pinch-runner, Emma Muncy, scored on a ground out by Sam Case.

Leadoff hitter Maddie Horn led the UPike offense with three hits. Kaden Dunlap, Case and Jamie Pollard all had hits.

CJ Alincic went the distance for the Bears, striking out 12 and allowing only five hits.

Chargers 8, Bears 2: Lancaster Bible, located in Lancaster, Penn., scored four times in the fourth and added three in the sixth to take a 7-0 lead en route to the win.

UPike's runs came in the sixth on RBI singles by Horn and Dunlap. The Bears' other two hits came from Kyra Kaboos and Lillie Kluesner, who scored the runs.

Kelsie Hardester pitched all seven for the Bears and recorded 12 strikeouts.
