Revolt's late triple powers Bears past LWC

PIKEVILLE, Ky. - University of Pikeville baseball won its twelfth game of the 2024 season after a 7-5 win over Lindsey Wilson Tuesday afternoon.

The Blue Raiders capitalized on an error in the first inning and pushed three runs across. The Bears got on the board one inning later, starting with a double to right by Tyler Maynard. Maynard then advanced to third after a 5-3 productive out by Cam Revolt, then scored after an errant throw to third.

The Bears continued to chip away at Lindsey Wilson's lead an inning later. Hunter Ferguson led off the third with a walk, then had Connor Moody check into the game as a courtesy runner. Moody advanced to second after an infield single by Tyler Freas, then scored two batters later after a groundout by Riley Paulino.

Tyler Maynard led off the fourth with another extra base hit, this time doubling to center. Maynard tapped the dish and tied the game two batters later after a single to center by Francis Subero. Subero then made his way home after Hunter Ferguson reached on an error. The Bears led 4-3 after four.

One inning later, Riley Paulino led off the inning with a solo homer to right field to put the Bears up 5-3. The Blue Raiders got a run back in the sixth, then knotted the score at 5-5 an inning later. The score would not remain tied for long, however, as the Bears retook a two-run lead in the bottom half of the seventh.

Riley Paulino led off the inning with a single but was retired via fielder's choice, leaving Noah Helton on first with one out. Helton stole second and then advanced to third after an error. Austin Gurney grounded out for the second out of the inning, then Tyler Maynard drew a walk. With runners on the corners and two outs, Cam Revolt stepped up to the plate and belted a triple to center field, scoring Helton and Maynard. After seven, the Bears led 7-5.

In the ninth, the Bears ran into some trouble early after the Blue Raiders' first two batters reached base. Richtter Castillo checked into the game and slammed the door on LWC's comeback bid. Castillo struck out the first two batters he faced, then a 5-3 putout ended it and the Bears won 7-5.

Caleb Morrison made his first start of the season on the mound for the Bears. The freshman left-hander from Georgetown, Ky., pitched 3.0 innings, allowed three runs (one earned) on six hits and struck out two. Isaac Berry pitched 3.2 innings of relief, allowing two runs on four hits and six strikeouts.

Next up for Coach Cody Andreychuk's squad is an AAC series against the KCU Knights. Games one and two will be played on Thursday afternoon, with first pitch set for 12 p.m. at Johnnie LeMaster Field, followed by game three on Friday at noon.
