UPike drops two to TMU

 
 
PIKEVILLE, Ky. – Truett McConnell (Ga.) University came to town on Sunday and swept the University of Pikeville softball team, winning the opener 8-0 and the nightcap 3-1.
 
UPike (15-16, 11-11) will be back in action on Tuesday, taking its final road trip of the regular season to Grayson to meet Kentucky Christian University. First pitch is slated for noon.
 
TMU 8, UPike 0: Truett scored one in the first, two in the third and four in the fourth to take control. Meanwhile, UPike was hitless until the fourth.
 
A run in the sixth gave TMU the win.
 
UPike had only two hits in the game. Kaden Dunlap and Jasmine Kaylor each had singles.
 
Starting pitcher Chloe Bryant pitched 3-1/3 innings and took the loss, dipping to 5-5 on the season. Kyleigh Sanders got the win for Truett McConnell, improving to 7-7.
 
TMU 3, UPike 1: Truett McConnell scored twice in the second and that proved to be enough to complete the sweep.
 
UPike scored what would prove to be its only run in the bottom of the fifth. With two outs, Kaden Dunlap singled and scored on a double off the bat of Jasmine Kaylor.
 
Truett got the run back in the top of the sixth when Cassie Boatright homered to straightaway center.
 
Upike had seven hits in the game. Kaylor, Katelyn Byrd and Alyssa Franklin had two each. Dunlap and Lillie Kluesner had singles.
