Reinhardt takes pair from Bears

 
 
 
WALESKA, Ga. – The University of Pikeville dropped a doubleheader to the top team in the AAC on Saturday, falling to Reinhardt University 8-0 and 7-0.
 
The Bears are now 13-14 overall this season and 9-9 against league competition. Reinhart ran its win streak to six and has a record of 27-7 on the season, including a perfect 16-0 in the conference.
 
UPike will be back in action on Tuesday, playing its final road games of the regular season when it makes the short trip to Grayson to play Kentucky Christian. Those games are slated to begin at 1 p.m.
 
Eagles 8, Bears 0: After opening scoring with a tally in the second, Reinhardt posted six in the third to put the game on ice.
 
The Bears managed only three hits in the opener. They got singles from Kaden Dunlap, Alyssa Franklin and Maria McClellan but couldn't score.
 
Chloe Bryant started in the circle and threw the first 2-1/3 innings to fall to 5-5. Sara Bays pitched the final 1-2/3.
 
Senior Whitney Shepherd went the distance for the Eagles, recording five strikeouts without a walk.
 
Eagles 7, Bears 0: Reinhardt scored in four of its five trips to the plate and again limited the Bears to three hits in completing the sweep.
 
After scoring single runs in the first two frames, the Eagles scored twice in the fourth and wrapped it up with three in the fifth.
 
The Bears got hits from Franklin, Jasmine Kaylor and Maddie Horn.
 
CJ Alincic pitched the first four innings before giving way to Kelsie Hardester in the fifth.
