PIKEVILLE, Ky. – The athletics season at the University of Pikeville got started on Saturday evening with the women's soccer team from UT-Southern picking up a 4-0 win.

The game was stopped with less than 17 minutes remaining and was never resumed.

UT-Southern, ranked No. 4 in the NAIA preseason poll, recorded eight shots on goal of their 16 shot attempts.

UT-Southern took a 2-0 lead in the first half. The first goal came off the foot of Kira Goodwin, in the 19
th minute off a pass from Jessica Glassman.

The second came in the 23
rd minute when Nau Katamoto scored unassisted.

The Firehawks had two quick goals in the middle of the half. The first game on an own goal. The second was scored by Anna Franklin on a pass from Marina Nawa to make it 4-0.

The Bears recorded two shots on the day, coming from sophomores
Anna Dudas and
Kylie Ritter, but neither found the net.

UPike will be back in action on Saturday, playing host to WVU Tech. The contest is slated for a 5 p.m. start at Bob Amos Park.

The Firehawks will play their next regular-season game on Friday when they travel to play Mount Vernon (Ohio). The contest is scheduled to start at 7 p.m.
