DAYTON, Tenn. - University of Pikeville men's soccer lost its 2024 AAC opener 3-0 to Bryan College Saturday afternoon.
Bryan's offense tested the Bears' defense early, with a corner kick in the 17'. The Lions continued to pepper Bears keeper Joao Miclos with shots in the 26' and 27'. Bryan struck first when Owen Morales connected with David Gomez in the 29' to give the Lions a 1-0 lead.
The Bears responded with a pair of corner kicks in the 30' and 31', then Anthony Aguilar had a shot on net, but BC's Jack Smith made a save. UPIKE's offense continued to put pressure on Smith, with shots on goal from Bruno Back and Oliver Fausel. UPIKE was unable to score in the first 45 and trailed 1-0 at halftime.
Darron Bauman opened the second half with a shot attempt that went wide in the 48', then Matias Salviat took a corner kick, but the Bears did not score. Bryan responded with three shot attempts, then broke through with another goal in 52'. Cesar Castro connected with David Gomez to put the Lions ahead 2-0.
Between the 53' and 61', UPIKE dominated possession. The Bears had a corner kick opportunity and shots by Matias Salviat, Juan Farkas, and Darron Bauman but none found the back of the net. The Bears did not score in this game and the Lions added a third goal in the 90'. David Gomez recorded a hat trick off a feed from Cesar Castro.
UPIKE falls to 1-4 (0-1 AAC) following today's result. Coach Oliver Hewitt-Fisher's squad will hit the pitch again next Saturday for a match against the Johnson University Royals. Kickoff is set for 3:30 PM at Bob Amos Park.
