WALESKA, Ga. - University of Pikeville volleyball lost 3-0 to Reinhardt University Friday night.
The Bears got off to a hot start in set one, scoring 11 of the first 15 points. The Eagles responded with a 14-6 run to take an 18-17 lead later in the set. Reinhardt closed out set one with a 7-3 run to take set one 25-21, and a 1-0 lead in the match.
The second set saw UPike and Reinhardt take turns going on runs of two and three points, with neither side leading by more than two for most of the set. Late in the set with Reinhardt holding a slim, 18-17, lead; the Eagles pulled away and went on a 7-1 run. Reinhardt won set two 25-18 and held a 2-0 lead in the match.
UPike started off strong in set three, getting off to a 10-7 lead. Reinhad responded by scoring six of the next seven points to go up 13-11. The Eagles then put some distance between them and the Bears with a 7-4 run to go up 20-15. The Bears were unable to pull off a comeback and lost the set 25-20 and lost the match 3-0.
Gracey Lovgren and Lanie Hawley led UPike with seven kills each. Hawley led UPike with 4.0 blocks. Chloie Brinton had 22 assists and still leads the AAC in assists per set with 8.86 over 19 games played. Defensively, Ashtyn Filkins led the team with nine digs.
Friday night's loss to Reinhardt is the Bears' second consecutive loss and their third loss in their last four games. The Bears record is now 8-11 (5-3 AAC). UPike will take to the court again Saturday morning for an 11 a.m. road game against Brenau University.
