The University of Pikeville picked up a key women's soccer win on Saturday morning, knocking off Brenau (Ga.) University 1-0 at Bob Amos Park.

The teams were scoreless through the first half before the Bears netted what would prove to be the only goal of the contest. For UPike, it was the fourth shutout of the season.

The win improved the Bears to 7-1-3 overall, 5-1-2 in the AAC. The Golden Tigers now stand 6-6-1, 4-5-1 in league play.

After the scoreless first half, a pair of senior Bears got on them on the scoreboard early.

It came in the 48
th minute when
Bailey Walker's header found the back of the net off a pass from
Kiera Bailey.

UPike recorded seven shots on goal, compared to three for the Golden Tigers.

Junior goalkeeper
Nevaeh Brown recorded three saves in the win. Brenau sophomore keeper Zyara Gonzalez-Galeano had six saves.

The Bears will be back in action on Tuesday night when they travel to Bluefield (Va.) University. The contest is slated for a 6:30 p.m. start.
