The only goal in the second half was enough to give the University of Pikeville a 2-1 win over Milligan (Tenn.) University on Wednesday night at Bob Amos Park.
Â
In the 58th minute, UPike junior
Yali Cohen banged in his third goal of the season. The pass was from sophomore
Finn Wijnen to put the Bears in front 2-1.
Â
That was enough to secure the win.
Â
The win improved the Bears to 7-5-2 on the season, 5-2-2 in the league. Milligan, which received votes in the poll that came out earlier on Wednesday, is now 9-4-1 overall, 8-3 in AAC play.
Â
The Buffs got on the scoreboard quickly. Kerim Akpinar scored on a pass from Marco Lattanzi in the sixth minute.
Â
UPike, however, responded three minutes later on a goal by
Samuel Cristancho. It was the first goal of the season for the junior. The assist was by Cohen, his first of the season as well.
Â
It stayed that way until the 58th minute when Cohen's goal put UPike in front to stay.
Â
UPike freshman goalkeeper
Alejandro Iglesias recorded five saves in the win. For Milligan, Adria Alles recorded two saves.
Â
The Bears will try to extend their three-game unbeaten streak on Saturday when they travel to Waleska, Ga., to play Reinhardt. The game is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start.
