WALESKA, Ga. - University of Pikeville women's soccer traveled down to Reinhardt and defeated the Eagles 3-2 Saturday evening.
Charlene Lofqvist had the first shot on goal of the match three minutes in, then Julia Pinson had another shot on goal one minute later. Both shots were turned away by RU goalkeeper Reagan Horton.
Navaeh Brown turned away Reinhardt's first two shots on goal. The Eagles had a golden opportunity to score the first goal of the match in the 12th minute when Brookelyn Green fired a shot on frame, but Rebekah Christopher made a defensive save.
24 minutes after making a defensive save to keep the Eagles off the scoresheet, Christopher netted the match's first goal. Reinhardt wasted no time getting the goal back. Sarah Taylor fired a shot past Brown seconds after Christopher's goal to tie the score at 1-1.
The Bears had four more shot attempts, and the Eagles had two, but the teams went to the halftime break tied at 1-1. After 45 minutes, the Eagles held a 9-7 advantage in shot attempts.
Charlene Lofvist had the Bears' first shot attempt in the second half in the 50th minute, then scored the Bears' first goal of the second half in the 57th minute. Just like the first half, the Eagles wasted no time knotting the score back up. Reinhardt's Sarah Taylor netted her second goal of the match four minutes after Lofqvist's goal.
Five minutes after Taylor tied the match, Gabrielle Ernst put the Bears back up for good. Ernst fired a shot past Horton in the 66th minute to put the Bears up 3-2. The Eagles put the pressure on the Bears trying to tie the match, but the Bears defense held strong. Brown made four saves to preserve the win. UPike finished the match having outshot the Eagles 19-16.
UPike improves to 8-3-3 (6-3-2 AAC) following Saturday's win over the Eagles. UPike will return home for a Wednesday afternoon for their penultimate match of the 2025 regular season, a 3 p.m. match against Montreat College Cavaliers at Bob Amos Park.
