The University of Pikeville picked up an important women's soccer win on Wednesday afternoon, beating Montreat (N.C.) University 4-0 at Bob Amos Park.

The win improved the Bears to 9-3-3 on the season, but more importantly, 7-3-2 in the league. The Cavaliers are now 6-8-1 overall, 5-6-1 in the AAC.

Junior
Jayla Boyd, the team's leading scorer on the season, had two more goals in the win. The first came in the 17
th minute when she scored the first half's only goal off a pass from sophomore
Rebekah Christopher.

In the second half, the Bears added to the lead in the 54
th minute. Junior wing
Charlene Lofqvist found the net. The assist went to sophomore
Sara Ritter.

Ritter then scored the next goal, coming in the 65
th minute, to make the score 3-0.

The Bears wrapped up scoring the same way it started, as Boyd scored her 15
th goal of the season in the 79
th minute. The assist went to freshman
Gabrielle Ernst.

Boyd's goals gave her the league lead in both goals and points.

UPike had 15 shots in the game, nine of them on goal. Montreat had four shots, none of which were on goal.

Montreat junior goalkeeper Anna Weissenfluh was credited with five saves.

UPike will play its final game of the regular season on Saturday afternoon when it hosts Columbia International (S.C.) University. The game will begin at 1 p.m.
