Battle of Bears ends in scoreless tie

 
CLEVELAND, Ga. – The University of Pikeville and Truett McConnell University played to a scoreless tie on Saturday afternoon in AAC play.
 
For UPike, which is now 5-5-2 overall and 3-2-2 in league competition, it's the first scoreless tie since last October 19 against St. Andrews (N.C.).
 
Truett McConnell played its first tie of the season and is now 6-3-1, 4-1-1 in the conference.
 
UPike had more shots than TMU, 14-5, and recorded more shots on goal, 6-3. But neither could put one past the keeper.
 
UPike had the final five shots of the contest, beginning in the 77th minute. The final three of those were blocked, one was saved and one wide right.
 
Freshman Alejandro Iglesias spent all 90 minutes in goal for UPike, recording all three saves.
 
Sophomore Bruno Arenal had three of UPike's shots on goal in the contest. Juniors Samuel Cristancho and Bruno Back, along with sophomore Alex Pritchard, also put the ball on the net, only to be turned away.
 
Iglesias turned away shots by Truett sophomores Marco Mandelka and Cohen Cantrell and freshman Marcos Martinez.
 
UPike will remain on the road next week, visiting Athens, Tenn., to meet Tennessee Wesleyan University on Wednesday. That game is set to start at 1 p.m.
