Â
KANSAS CITY – The NAIA released its football All-Americans on Thursday in conjunction with the AFCA, and one member of the University of Pikeville was honored.
Â
Grant Scott was named the third-team tight end.
Â
"We're really happy for Grant," said Coach
Corey Fipps. "He's a very good football player, but what we're most proud of is the kind of person he is. He's an outstanding representative of our program, our department and our school.
Â
"He absolutely deserves this."
Â
Scott is a 6-4, 242-pound junior from Pikeville. He was named a first-team selection in the AAC this season.
Â
Scott finished the season with 34 catches for 478 yards and three touchdowns. He was third on the team in receiving yards and fourth in both catches and touchdowns.
Â
On Sept. 27 at Maryville (Tenn.) Scott caught six passes for 101 yards, his first career 100-yard game.
Â
When the Bears played Union Commonwealth University on Nov. 1, Scott found the end zone twice. In the second quarter he hauled in a 34-yard scoring pass, the longest reception of his career.
Â
Later in the third period, he caught a 12-yard score, his first multiple-touchdown game.
Â
It marks the second straight season a member of the Scott family was named an All-America. Last season, his brother
Jordan Scott was named a first-team offensive lineman for the Bears.
