PIKEVILLE, Ky. – Junior guard
LA Walker scored on a layup with 1.5 seconds left to give the University of Pikeville a 62-60 win over Union Commonwealth University on Wednesday night at the UPike Gym.

The win improved the Bears to 21-5 on the season and 14-4 in the AAC, maintaining their spot atop the league standings with only two games to play in the regular season.

Walker, the Columbus, Ohio, native, finished with 10 points to go with three blocks, three rebounds and two assists to give the Bears a sweep in the season series with the Bulldogs.

UPike led 18-6 with 10:29 remaining in the opening period. It would prove to be the biggest advantage of the game. Union then slowly outscored the Bears 18-6 and a Kaleb McClendon three-point shot with 3:44 to play in the half tied the game at 24-24.

Two free throws by junior
Tyler Best with 3:02 left in the game pushed the Bears in front 60-55. But Union scored five straight points, and consecutive baskets by junior Allister Dixon, including a dunk with 51 seconds left, tied the game at 60.

The teams traded empty possessions down the stretch. UPike turned it over and Union Commonwealth missed a jumper, with
Keian Worrix claiming the rebound to set the stage for the win.

Junior
Keynan Cutlip led all scorers with 16 points. Junior
Bradley Bunch had 12 and a game-high eight rebounds, to join Walker in double figures.

Junior Allister Dixon came off the bench to lead the Bulldogs with 14 points, all of them in the second half. Junior Jeremiah Stroman followed with a dozen.

UPike will be back in action in a week, traveling to Grayson to play KCU. Game time next Wednesday is 7:30 p.m.

Union fell to 10-13 on the season, 6-11 in the league.
