Baseball loses thriller at Midway

WINCHESTER, Ky. - A Midway walk-off grand slam capped off a wild eighth and ninth innings that ended in a 12-9 loss for the Bears Tuesday night.  

Trailing 7-4 in the top of the eighth, the Bears scored four runs to take the lead. With two on and one out, Riley Paulino walked to load the bases, but they did not stay loaded for long. Cam Revolt emptied the bases with a three-run triple to tie the game. Revolt scored one at-bat later after a double by Noah Brooks to take the lead.  

In the top of the ninth, Joe Gagnon reached base via a throwing error and advanced to second. Gagnon advanced to third two batters later after a groundout by Francis Subero, then scored on a wild pitch. UPIKE led 9-7 heading into the game's final frame.  

The Eagles got their rally started with back-to-back walks to open the bottom of the ninth. Two batters later, Midway's Carlos Canales drew a walk to load the bases, then the Eagles cut UPIKE's lead in half after a fielder's choice RBI by Grant Hotchkiss. With the bases loaded and one out, Eli Glasscock walked it off with a grand slam.  

At the plate, the Bears were led by Revolt and Brooks with two hits each. Revolt a career-high five RBIs. Brooks extended his hit streak to four consecutive games and has multiple hits it three of the last four games. Subero continued to stay hot at the plate. Subero had two RBIs Tuesday and now has seven over the past three games.  

UPIKE is 8-6 following Tuesday's loss to the Eagles. The Bears will hit the field Friday for their 2025 home opener against Johnson University. First pitch for game one of a three-game against the Royals is set for 3:00 p.m.
