Bears pull away from Eagles; win fourth straight

PIPPA PASSES, Ky. - University of Pikeville Bears baseball extended their win to streak to four after a 5-1 road win over Alice Lloyd Tuesday afternoon.

The Eagles struck first in the bottom of the first, but the Bears answered with one in the next frame. With two outs and the bases empty, Ian Setser belted a double to right to get into scoring position. Setser scored during the next at-bat when Francis Subero hit an RBI single.

After a scoreless third, fourth, and fifth innings, UPIKE took the lead for good in the sixth. Cam Revolt, fresh off an AAC Player of the Week honor, hit an infield single then stole second. Garren Gledhill drew a walk to put two runners on with no outs. Noah Brooks reached base via a single and advanced after an Eagles' error, scoring Revolt.

The Bears added three insurance runs two innings later. Revolt recorded another infield single, then advanced after Gledhill was retired 1-3. Brooks and Austin Gurney drew back-to-back walks, then Richards was hit by a pitch to score Revolt. UPIKE tacked on two more runs after the Eagles committed an error with the bases loaded. The Eagles went down in order in the ninth and the Bears won 5-1.

Jonah Adkins got the start on the mound for the Bears and had quite the afternoon. The freshman hurler from Belfry, Ky., pitched a complete game, allowing one run (unearned) on four hits and had one strikeout. Adkins has won three consecutive starts and is 3-1 on the year.

UPIKE improved to 24-19 (15-12 AAC) and has won eleven of their last twelve games. Coach Cody Andreychuk's squad will return home Friday against the Union Commonwealth Bulldogs. The Bears and the Bulldogs will play one game Friday and a doubleheader Saturday. UPIKE will also honor its 2025 senior class Saturday for senior day.
