WILLIAMSON, W.Va. – Senior
Gracey Lovgren had 16 kills and four blocks to lead the University of Pikeville to a 3-1 win over WVU Tech on Tuesday night.

The matchup was held at the historic Williamson Fieldhouse and moved UPike to 1-2 on the season, while Tech fell to 0-9 on the campaign.

Lovgren was joined by senior
Alondra Ayende with 12 kills, while junior
Lanie Hawley followed with eight. Five Bears contributed to eight service aces.

Junior
Chloie Brinton led the Bears with 17 digs, while Ayende, who was a force on both sides of the net, followed with 10. Hawley followed Lovgren with three blocks in the win.

UPike 25, WVU Tech 18: The teams were tied six times early, including at 7-7, before Tech scored four straight points. UPike immediately answered with five straight, including three kills by senior
Alondra Ayende, to take a 12-11 lead.

Tech got four straight kills, all by freshman Aniston Treadway, to tie the score at 15. UPike led 19-17 before scoring six of the final seven points, the final two on service aces by sophomore
Cassidy Rivas, to close out the win.

UPike 25, WVU Tech 15: The UPike run continued into the second set, as it scored the first eight points, getting six of them on kills. The edge moved to 12-3 after three straight kills, two by sophomore
Olivia Chapman.

Tech pulled within four, 15-11, before UPike posted six unanswered points, half of them on Ayende kills, to lead 21-11 and cruise to the win.

WVU Tech 25, UPike 22: UPike took a five-point lead at 11-6 on a Tech attack error. It was a five-point lead three more times before a Rivas kill pushed it to 17-11.

Tech responded with three straight points, two coming on UPike errors, to cut the lead in half, and battled back to tie the game at 18 and 19 before an attack error gave them a lead. That was the first of three straight errors to give Tech a 21-19 lead.

UPike rallied to tie the score at 21 and then 22 before Tech closed it out with three straight, including a kill by junior Ivana Burgos to close it out.

UPike 25, WVU Tech 23: Trailing 23-20, Ayende closed it out with five straight points off her serve, three of them coming on kills by senior
Gracey Lovgren for the win. Tech took a 23-21 lead on a service ace by junior Miriam Garcia Isabel before UPike began its run.

UPike led 9-5 early for its biggest advantage of the set. Tech's largest lead was at 23-20.
