After falling behind two sets to none, the University of Pikeville volleyball team rallied to win consecutive sets before falling to Lindsey Wilson University 3-2 on Tuesday night at the UPike Gym.

Lindsey Wilson (10-2), which is the top team in the ratings not in the Top 25, won the first two sets 25-17 and 25-14 before UPike rallied with consecutive 25-20 wins. The Blue Raiders took the final set 15-8.

Alondra Ayende and sophomore
Cassidy Rivas had 16 kills apiece for the Bears, while junior
Lanie Hawley followed with 10.

Chloie Brinton, the reigning AAC Defender of the Week, recorded 52 assists, which is the second most in school history.

In addition to 16 kills, Rivas had 19 digs on the defensive end. Sophomore
Ashtyn Filkins added 12. Senior Teresa Romero had three blocks, two of them solos, and Hawley had three as well.

UPike is on the road on Saturday, playing a tri-match at Kentucky Christian. The Bears play the Knights at 3 p.m. and then meet Shawnee State (Ohio) University at 5 p.m.

Blue Raiders 25, Bears 17: After UPike jumped out to an early 4 -2 lead thanks to a pair of kills by Hawley, Lindsey went on a 5-1 run to take the lead. In front 9-7, the Blue Raiders ran off four straight points, finishing with a block by Ana Clara Beltran and Petra Fernandez to lead 13-7.

Trailing 17-11, UPike scored four straight, getting the last two on attack errors, to pull within three. They would get no closer, as the Blue Raiders finished it off by posting five of the last six points.

Blue Raiders 25, Bears 14: Lindsey Wilson scored the first point on an attack error, and while the Bears tied it on a kill by
Chloie Brinton, the Blue Raiders never trailed in taking a 2-0 lead.

The Bears trailed 11-4 after a service ace by Ola Wyrzykowska, but then scored five unanswered points to get back in the game. It started with two kills by Ayende and ended with a service ace by Chapman to cut the deficit to 11-9.

But from there, Lindsey scored 14 of the final 19 points to finish the set.

Bears 25, Blue Raiders 20: After Lindsey Wilson opened with the first three points, UPike settled down and went on an 11-2 run. It started with a kill by Hawley and included two by Ayende, ending with a service ace by Hawley to make the lead 11-5.

Leading 14-8, the Bears then outscored Lindsey 5-2 to push the lead to eight. The Raiders got as close as four (24-20) but couldn't get closer as Ayende closed it out with another kill.

Bears 25, Blue Raiders 20: The comeback continued as the Bears used an early 8-3 run to pull ahead. Ayende continued her torrid streak, accounting for half the points in this stretch on kills, including one to put the Bears on top 12-10.

A 5-1 stretch that included two kills by Rivas followed to put UPike in front 17-13. The lead grew to six at 21-15, and the teams traded points until the end, which came on a kill by Hawley to force the fifth set.

Blue Raiders 15, Bears 8: Lindsey took immediate control of the fifth set, scoring the first five points. Fernandez was solid on serve and Wyrzykowska had kills for the final two points.

UPike put forth the effort, and consecutive attack errors pulled them within four at 12-8 before the Blue Raiders shut the door.
