DAYTON, Tenn. – The University of Pikeville completed a weekend sweep to start AAC play on Saturday morning with a 3-1 win over Bryan College.

The Bears repeated their pattern of the night before at Tennessee Wesleyan, winning the first two sets by scores of 25-17 and 25-21. The Lions took the third set 28-26 before the Bears finished off the win 25-18 in the fourth set.

UPike improved to 5-8 overall and 2-0 in league play. Bryan is now 1-17 and 0-2.

Lanie Hawley had 14 kills each, while senior
Gracey Lovgren added 12, as the Bears had 60 for the day. Junior setter
Chloie Brinton continued her torrid pace, recording 63 assists in the win. Brinton also had three of UPike's eight service aces.

While the Bears weren't credited with a solo block, they did have 20 block assists. Hawley led the way with seven while Lovgren had five. Sophomore
Ashtyn Filkins paced the Bears with 14 digs, while Brinton recorded 12.

The Bears will return home on Wednesday for their first home game on the league schedule when they host Bluefield (Va.) University in a match slated to start at 6:30 p.m.

Bears 25, Lions 17: Consecutive kills by Hawley and Lovgren put UPike on top 4-0 en route to an 8-2 advantage, which came on a kill by sophomore
Olivia Chapman. Bryan pulled to within three twice, the last time coming at 14-11, before the Bears pulled away for the win.

Bears 25, Lions 21: Consecutive points by Bryan gave it an early 7-5 lead before the Bears went on an 8-1 scoring run to take control with a 13-8 advantage. Romero and Lovgren had two kills each while Chapman and Brinton recorded service aces.

The Lions kept it close, pulling to within one point on two occasions, the latter of which coming at 17-16. But UPike answered with five of the next six points and held on for the win.

Lions 28, Bears 26: It was a set of runs that led to the Lions recording their only win of the day. UPike broke a 2-2 tie with three straight. The Lions had a run of three to take an 8-7 lead. UPike responded with four straight and six of the next seven points to lead 13-9.

Bryan scored four of the next five to cut the lead to 14-13, and a later stretch of six out of seven points gave it a 20-17 advantage.

UPike had match point at 26-25 before Bryan scored the final three points to pick up the win.

Bears 25, Lions 18: The third tie of the early portion of the final set came at 7-7 before the Bears went on an 8-0 run. Hawley, Romero and Lovgren all had kills while Brinton contributed with a service ace. Bryan got no closer than six, and sophomore
Cassidy Rivas finished it with a kill.
