A hat trick by junior wing
Charlene Lofqvist, all coming in the second half, broke a 2-2 tie and led the University of Pikeville to a 5-2 win over Union Commonwealth University.

The win for the Bears kept them unbeaten at 6-0-2 overall, 2-0-1 in the AAC. Union Commonwealth fell to 0-9 on the season, 0-5 in the league,

Lofqvist, a product of Saltsjo-boo, Sweden, now has nine goals on the season, which is both second on the team and in the league.

UPike scored two goals in the first half, and they came barely two minutes apart.

The first came in the 14th minute, an unassisted goal by sophomore forward
Sara Ritter, when she scored from 27 yards out over the head of the keeper.

In the 16th minute, the AAC's leading scorer
Jayla Boyd scored on a header off passes from Ritter and
Anna Dudas.

Union got one back in the 38
th minute. Freshman Olivia Bartlett's attempt was stopped by UPike keeper
Allyson Gonzalez, but senior Dionte Delpeche kicked in the rebound.

The Bulldogs continued to battle, and in the 48
th minute junior Iyana Campbell kicked in a long, looping shot over the head of Gonzalez to tie the score at 2-2.

The Bears, however, scored two goals in a 39-second span. Both were scored by Lofqvist, with Boyd assisting on both and Ritter adding one on the first.

The scores put UPike in front 4-2 in the 54
th minute.

Lofqvist's final goal came in the 78
th minute and set the final score, with the assist going to freshman
Jacquelyn Reding. For Reding, it was her first collegiate point.

UPike had 13 shots on goal, compared to six for Union Commonwealth. Gonzales recorded four saves for the Bears, while Brenes had five for the Bulldogs.

The Bears will return to action on Saturday when they travel to Spartanburg, S.C., to face Spartanburg Methodist. The contest is slated for a noon start.
