Bears down Bluefield, clinch share of AAC crown

 
BLUEFIELD, Va. – Five players scored in double figures on Wednesday night to lead the University of Pikeville to a 78-67 win over Bluefield University.
 
The win, combined with a loss by Johnson (Tenn.) University, secured the Bears a share of the regular season championship in the AAC. They're now 21-3 on the season and 14-1 in the AAC.
 
On the day they moved into the Top 10 of the national ratings, the Bears connected on 12 three-point shots and held the Rams to 4-for-18 shooting from the arc.
 
Senior Bradley Bunch led the Bears with 20 points. That gives him 1,590 in his career, moving him from 13th to 11th on the all-time scoring list. He moved past national champion Justin Hicks (1,571) and Reggie Gravley (1,572), both members of the school's hall of fame.
 
Bunch also led the Bears with 13 rebounds, three steals and a blocked shot.
 
Sophomore Rylee Samons hit four three-pointers to finish with 14 points. Senior guard Keian Worrix had 12 points and five assists.
 
Senior Keynan Cutlip had 11 points while adding four assists and three rebounds, while senior LA Walker had 10 points, five assists and four rebounds.
 
UPike had 20 assists on its 28 made field goals on the night.
 
Senior DJ McDonald was the game's leading scorer, finishing with 27 on 13 for 17 shooting from the floor. Senior Ke'Shaun Tonsall followed with 12 points and was one of four Rams with three assists in the game.
 
Senior Danny Alford, who also had three assists, finished with nine points and a team-high eight rebounds.
 
UPike will remain on the road and be in Waleska, Ga., on Saturday when they visit Reinhardt University. The game is scheduled for a 4 p.m. opening tip.
