Bears drop AAC opener at Milligan

 
 
MILLIGAN, Tenn. – The University of Pikeville opened AAC play on Friday with a 13-3 loss to Milligan University.
 
The Buffs improved to 8-0 with three multiple-run innings to build a 13-0 lead. UPike didn't get on the scoreboard until the seventh inning.
 
In the final inning, pinch hitter Gavin Fraser led off with a single to left and moved into scoring position when Francis Subero reached on an infield error. Pinch hitter Cole Fowler loaded the bases when he reached on an infield hit.
 
Freshman Reed Sutton delivered the first run of the game on a sacrifice fly to score Fraser. Subero scored on a wild pitch, and Mason Melton delivered Fowler with a single to right field.
 
Entering the final inning of play, UPike's only hit came on a single by Riley Paulino.
 
UPike used three pitchers in the game. The decision went to Teague Van Dyke, who went two innings and is 0-2.
 
Jake Maniago pitched the next 2-2/3 innings, while Kaleb Humphreys went the final 1-1/3.
 
UPike is 2-3 on the season and will play a twin bill to close out the Milligan series on Saturday afternoon.
